Atlanta Braves Trivia Quizzes

The Atlanta Braves claim the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in America, beginning as the Boston Red Stockings of the 1871 National Association and entering the National League in 1876. In Boston they were Beaneaters, Doves, Rustlers, and Braves, winning the 1914 World Series as the “Miracle Braves” who surged from last place. Babe Ruth finished his career in a Boston Braves uniform in 1935. The club moved to Milwaukee in 1953, where Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews, and a young Hank Aaron won the 1957 World Series over the Yankees and a pennant in 1958. Milwaukee’s decade was a golden age that still complicates Atlanta’s origin story for older fans.

The Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966, bringing Aaron with them. On April 8, 1974, Aaron hit his 715th home run to pass Babe Ruth, a national moment that transcended the box score and the racist mail that had accompanied his chase. The 1980s were lean. Then Ted Turner’s ownership, a new ballpark, and one of the great pitching trios in history — Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz — produced 14 consecutive division titles from 1991 through 2005. Bobby Cox managed that run. The 1995 World Series win over Cleveland was the only title of the streak, a fact that still stings in a city that treated October as an annual appointment.

Chipper Jones’s Hall of Fame career, Andruw Jones’s center field, and later a homegrown core of Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, and a new pitching wave rebuilt the brand after the Turner Field years. Truist Park opened in 2017 in Cobb County. In 2021 the Braves won the World Series over Houston, a title that felt like a delayed payment on the 1990s dynasty. Subsequent division titles and a 2023 season of historic offense showed the development machine still humming.

Four World Series championships in three cities, Aaron’s 715th, the Maddux-Glavine-Smoltz era, and a 2021 parade give the Braves a history as long as the National League itself. From Boston’s South End to Milwaukee County Stadium to Fulton County Stadium, Turner Field, and Truist Park, the franchise has kept moving and kept winning just often enough to remain baseball’s longest-running professional plotline.
